Velicham Thedi is an emotionally resonant family drama that explores the bonds between memory, loss, and reconciliation. The film follows Roshini, a woman in her late twenties, visiting her late mother's house in the wake of her death. Roshini’s relationship with her mother had been distant and painful, shaped by memories of neglect and an alcoholic parent. Now, armed with old photographs and fragmented recollections, she attempts to piece together a version of her mother she never fully understood. Her brother Nived, however, remembers their mother in an entirely different light - loving, present, and nurturing, a stark contrast to Roshini’s experience.
As Roshini and Nived revisit childhood memories and long-buried family stories, their differing perspectives create tension, unearthing painful truths and secrets neither was prepared to confront. Roshini is forced to grapple with whether her mother ever truly loved her or whether she was simply a victim of circumstances beyond her control.
As Roshini and Nived’s conflicting truths come to light, the film delves into the heart of unresolved trauma, showing how the past continues to shape their present, and how the pursuit of closure can be as elusive as the light they’re both searching for.
The film was an official selection at the 29th edition of the International Film Festival Kerala.
